Openly gay singer Steve Grand has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund his debut album. The singer also released a new song and music video, “Back to California,” the same day. The campaign was launched February 26 and will be active through March 30.

Grand has teamed up with producer Aaron Johnson, best known for his work with The Fray, to produce the new song, “Back to California.” The album will contain 12 tracks, all written by Grand. “I’ve been writing music for a long time, so I had a large catalog to pull from,” Grand revealed. “The music is all about the roller-coaster ride of being human: love and loss, hope and regret, triumph and the struggles of growing up—all through the lens of my own experiences.”

If the $81,000 goal is exceeded, more money will be used for marketing and promotion.  “I refuse to believe that the universal nature of any expression of love in music or art can be trumped by a damn pronoun.”

Steve Grand rose to popularity last year when the music video for his song, “All-American Boy” went viral on YouTube.  Months later, Grand released “Stay” and attracted attention from media outlets all across the country.
