A 15 year old user of the popular blogging website Tumblr recently posted her coming out story — a picture consisting of nothing more than a cake and letter she made for her parents. In less than three days the post has gained more than 86,000 notes.
The cake is a simple vanilla cake with white frosting and pink sprinkles, and the words, “I’m gay,” written across the cake in green frosting. The accompanying letter contains a number of pastry-inspired puns such as, “All my friends know and still love me. Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake.”
The girl, who according to the letter is named Laurel, created an additional post updating her readers on what happened after her parents saw the cake.
“My mom saw it and cried of happiness. We hugged and cried together. Then, we all ate the cake and talked,” she wrote. “I am very lucky to have such supporting parents.”
Such a sweet story! Read the full text of the letter after the jump, and check out the original Tumblr post here.
Good Morning Parents,
I’m gay. I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. I thought doing it this way would be a piece of cake. I hope you still love me. I mean, it’s hard not to love someone who baked you cake.
All my friends know and still love me. Your acceptance would be the icing on the cake.
I hope you, much like this cake, are not in tiers.
I hope we can look back on this and say “Boy, this one really takes the cake.”
It gets batter.
(Sorry for so many puns)
